Finishing options
Turning Open Forms
Different Grinds to minimize sanding
How to cut wood for best figure
Surface treatments
Getting Comfortable with the ½" swept back grind gouge
Wood selection (what to look for and why)
Enclosed Forms (Vessels of Illusions, etc)
Making a Vessel of Illusion
Tools for hollowing
What is good form?
Making your own tools
Generating new ideas for your work

Trent Bosch is a world class turner and excellent teacher. We are privileged that he is coming to Central Illinois.

Roger Buss was able to obtain permission to use the empty facility next to Woodcraft for the day. With this change there is additional room and the limit on the number of attendees has been removed. BUT, if you want lunch that day, get your name and check to for $35 to Terry Quiram before October 10th. This is a decided improvement in the facility available to us and should improve the overall experience.

Through the efforts of Dave Kraft, Keith Zimmerman, and Roger Alexander we will not only have video but also amplified sound. To further improve the event, Roger Buss has lent us an LCD projector. World class turner, good facility, improved sight and sound. Quite a package for only $35.

Currently the Sunday hands-on has 8 registered. Maximum is 10. Again, get your name and money to Terry if you want one of the last 2 spots. Session will start at 9:00 and end at 4:00. No lunch.

The dinner with Trent Bosch will be Sunday at 6:00 pm in Morton. Trent is using the Peoria airport and will not be arriving until very late Friday evening, so the dinner will be Sunday. I will notify all attendees of the location as soon as it is settled. There is room for an additional 4 people at the advanced turning discussion.

Bill Smith announced that he has purchased a booth for upcoming Harvest Festival to be help October 4 at the Interstate Center. He is offering to sell works by members of the club. He can be contacted at (309) 662-1160.

Local Shows & Opportunities

Baby Fold (Normal) - John Katzke reports that the Baby Fold in Normal is asking for donations of ornaments for Christmas trees the organization sells to raise money. Each tree is "pre-decorated" then raffled off. Please keep the Christmas spirit alive all year by making two or three ornaments that are 2" -5" tall and weigh under 4 oz. Bring them to the Peoria Woodcraft store and they will be on display throughout the year.

Details of the requested ornaments are as follows:
  • Each ornament tagged w/ makers name, wood types used, and value.
  • Have them marked " Baby Fold/John Katzke"
  • Deliver after March 15, so John has time to set up display area.
  • Price them appropriately so that the Baby Fold has an idea of their value
